Recent developments in information technology have enabled executives to use automated systems for strategic planning. One such class of automated support, the Group Decision Support System, is currently being used by several companies in various phases of the planning process. A discussion of the technology and its use is provided here. Further, to show how the systems have aided in the planning process we apply use of the technology to four common planning problems: inappropriate organizational climate, lack of understanding, lack of participation, and lack of communication.
