Abstract

The preparation and properties of diphenylsulfonium benzylide (8) and butylide (9) are described. Both ylids can be dissociated into carbenes and phenyl sulfide. The benzylide 8 reacts stereoselectively with benzal-dehydes to form trans-stilbene oxides.
