Coherent coupling in inhomogeneously broadened exciton ensembles

Abstract

The excitonic structure of various semiconductor quantum wells with different types and strengths of disorder by means of coherent excitation spectroscopy (CES) is studied. The coupling of resonances without distortion by incoherent relaxation or diffusion processes is analyzed, revealing that CES is predestined to reveal disorder induced coherent couplings or disorder induced dephasing. The criteria to determine coherent coupling of exciton resonances on the basis of CES experiments on a homogeneously broadened quantum well sample.
