Configuration mixing in the interacting boson model

Abstract

We present a new, general technique for providing a quantitative description of configuration mixing in nuclei. The technique uses the Interacting Boson Model to make separate descriptions of the different configurations, which are then mixed using an appropriate mixing hamiltonian. An example is given using the mercury isotopes.
