Dynamic stall control by intermittent periodic excitation

Abstract

The principle of dynamic separation and attachment control was demonstrated on a stationary generic flap by periodic excitation. The dynamic separation and attachment were dependent upon excitation frequency and amplitude, flap detection angle, flap length, and inflow conditions. A large-time-scale disparity between the excitation frequencies and airfoil pitching frequencies with respect to rotorcraft was observed.
