Abstract

A semantic matching algorithm that finds matches between concepts based on semantic relations between their properties has been developed. It has been implemented in an expert system, called GRANT, for finding sources of funding for researchers based on semantic matches between research proposals and descriptions of funding agencies' research priorities. In the past, GRANT has performed far better than keyword matching, but recently performance has declined. The causes of the decline are explored, and suggestions to improve performance are suggested.
