Abstract
A study was performed on exciton effects in photonic crystal structures. The near-bandgap optical properties of a semiconductor quantum well (QW) in which a periodic array of 0cylindrical air holes was etched into the barrier but not into the QW itself were analyzed. The photonic crystal structures were designed to effectively control the Coulombic interaction and carrier correlation effects.
