Abstract

First-order 2-D linear shift-varying digital filters are investigated for limit cycles due to the nonlinear effects of quantization. Sufficient conditions are derived for suppressing limit cycles due to overflow and roundoff after multiplication. These conditions are relaxed for periodically shift-varying filters. The results are illustrated with an example.
