Grand unified theory precursors and nontrivial fixed points in higher-dimensional gauge theories

Abstract

The possibility for GUT precursor states to appear with masses that are extremely light compared with the scale of gauge coupling unification was addressed. It was observed that ultraviolet embeddings into fixed-point theories can be used to provide a new method for maintaining or stabilizing a wide separation of energy scales within a single model.
