Abstract

A free-space optical bus system at the backplane level capable of high-speed data transmission is introduced. Thesystem uses substrate mode holograms to implement broadcasting operations, and each board on the backplane uses thesame free-space bus channels for transmitting and receiving signals. The effects of beam displacement on opticalcrosstalk and bus channel density are discussed. The broadcasting operations for 622 Mb/s signals were experimentallydemonstrated.
