Abstract

Previous studies showed that the organizational guanxi rent saliently determines the firm choice of guanxi practices, including both guanxi governance and guanxi utilization. However, unknown are the determinants of the firm diverse demands from different forms of organizational guanxi rents. Therefore, a four-dimensional framework of a strategic mode was defined in this paper, which was followed by a discussion on the impacts of different framework dimensions on the requirements of three different organizational guanxi rents. With the sample of member firms in the Beijing new and high technology industrial cluster, an empirical analysis was made to approve the pattern between strategic modes and guanxi rent requirements. The results show a statistically significant positive correlation between four dimensions of strategic modes and three different organizational guanxi rents.
