Abstract

A spinor transport theory was developed using the Boltzmann equation. The equations of motion for the distribution function for currents in noncollinear magnetic multilayers were derived. The spin polarization of the current can substantially deviate from the direction of the local magnetization within a few nanometers from the interface. It is observed that the electric field does not excite a transverse spin current in a magnetic layer in and of itself.
