Kinetics of soot combustion during regeneration of surface filters

Abstract

Soot particles can be removed from combustion products by using high-temperature surface filters. Regeneration in these filters can be accomplished by burning off the soot deposit. The effects of operating conditions on the regeneration kinetics are analyzed both experimentally and theoretically. The rate of regeneration drops significantly at high conversions. The total regeneration time increases with the initial loading at high temperatures but is insensitive to loading at low temperatures. The size distribution of residual particles can be predicted using the proposed model.
