Modeling of a transfer task in computer assisted surgical training

Abstract

A realistic, model-based training scenario generation is proposed to support haptic guidance system for laparoscopic surgery skills training. In this paper, a simulation model of a peg transfer task (one of the hands-on exam topics in Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery) is presented to provide a realistic challenge to a trainee. A simple specification based on an extensible markup language and Bezier curve based path generator are described to support the guidance system. Simulation results illustrate the feasibility of the proposed model.
