Abstract

A multi-service node based on an optical microelectromechanical (MEMS) crossconnect switch with 1.33 dB mean loss was demonstrated. Low loss optical switches could be combined with other optical components to build highly adaptable multiservice devices. A flexible Add/Drop multiplexer was implemented by connecting the output ports of two 16-channel freespace grating-based demultiplexing to switch ports.
