Abstract

We combine fast-frequency laser tuning and a 2×2 electrooptic switch to perform byte-by-byte switching at SONET rates using a wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) architecture. The three-section distributed-Bragg-reflector (DBR) lasers used can be tuned over a 100-GHz range in 5 ns.
