Abstract

The paper addresses one of the key problems in structural health monitoring - how to separate defects accumulated in structural members from those in joints. It is suggested to use an additional set of measurements - electrical conductivity - to distinguish between two types of defects. The theory is illustrated by a clear simple one-dimensional example of longitudinal vibrations of a slender bar.
