Abstract

This paper presents the synthesis and optical characterization of class of hybrid materials called polycerams which offer the advantages of processability by techniques such as spin coating, high refractive indices by simple chemical reactions, patternability by techniques such as embossing, combined with low optical attenuations in fabricated films, making it suitable for optical applications e.g. passive waveguides. Active waveguides can be easily obtained by incorporation of lasing elements or dyes. Also gratings of different depths can be developed in the surfaces.
