Abstract
The use of information systems in health care is widespread in the Netherlands, and nurses are confronted with these systems on many sites and occasions. However, the computerised support of the nursing process - the core of nursing care delivering activities - is limited to a few sites. This situation calls for an analysis of the problems that exist in the development and use of Nursing Information Systems (NISs). Possible solutions are suggested for an adequate use of information systems by Dutch nurses. A reference model for a proper course of action in the development and use of NISs is proposed.
