Quantum fluctuations in nonlinear optical self-focusing

Abstract

A theory of nonlinear optical self-focusing is developed which accounts for quantum fluctuations in the input field. For an input coherent state whose average peak power equals the critical power for self-focusing, the collapse distance is shown to exhibit macroscopic fluctuations.
