Solgel grating waveguides for distributed Bragg reflector lasers

Abstract

External-cavity distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) lasers based on solgel Bragg grating waveguides as feedback elements have been fabricated. The single-mode waveguide and the Bragg reflectors are made out of a new composition of aluminosilicate material. The solgel process of integrated optics provides low cost, low loss, processing flexibility and simplicity. Single-mode lasing with a sidemode suppression of better than 25 dB is demonstrated.
