Solventless sol-gel chemistry through ring-opening polymerization of bridged disilaoxacyclopentanes

Abstract

Novel alkylene-bridged disilaoxacyclopentanes were synthesized through the same methodology utilized in the synthesis of phenylene-bridged disilaoxacyclopentane. The first acid-catalyzed ring opening polymerization of disilaoxacyclopentanes was achieved using protic acids such as formic acid and triflic acid, as well as photo-acid generators (PAG). By using PAGs, these materials were explored for conformal coatings and microlithography.
