The spin dependence of the electron screening on the surface of ferromagnets and magnetic tunnel junctions was examined as a function of the electric field. The relationship between the surface screening and the Coulomb/exchange interactions were analyzed, and an integrodifferential equation which represents the induced surface charge and magnetization buildup was derived. The resulting equation was solved for a magnetic tunnel junction by local response approximation, and the nonequilibrium charge and magnetization buildups were estimated for Ni, Co, and Fe.
