Abstract

The author updates current US copper solution mining trends. Heap leaching is usually selected for moderate to high grade ores having a copper mineralization that is amenable to acid leaching (oxides, silicates and certain sulfides). Dump leaching practice usually involves leaching low grade waste rock placed on large dumps. In situ leaching is appropriate for either deep ore bodies or for recovering copper from low grade rock left behind in abandoned pit walls, stopes, and subsidence zones.
