Thermal aberration analysis of a laser-diode-pumped Nd. YAG laser

Abstract

A recently developed powerful GaAlAs laser diode (LD) has excellent spectral match to absorption band of Nd:YAG crystal (808nm) and can be focused into a spot which well coincides with the fundamental laser resonator mode. These properties of the LD allow to build an efficient diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser. We have stabilized an intra-cavity frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser with a KTiOPO4 (KTP) doubler using a quarter wave plate (QWP) to decouple the polarization mode interaction inside the cavity. With this technique, relative intensity noise (RIN) of -160 dB/Hz was obtained at 0 dBm input. The shot noise-limited green laser can be used in read out of a tripled density optical disk in NTSC format and in MUSE format.
