THz measurements of the optical response in a two-dimensional electron gas

Abstract

We present an experimental study of the THz transmission through a two dimensional electron gas embedded in a high electron-mobility transistor-like structure. Similar to previous experiments in a three-dimensional system, a clear resonance is observed in the imaginary part of the inverse dielectric function ℑ{1/ε(ω)}. A detailed analysis using a Drude-like response cannot explain all experimental findings. These significant deviations make a more detailed microscopic analysis necessary.
