Time-dependent radiation pattern of coupled exciton-photon modes in multiple quantum well Bragg structures

Abstract

Time-resolved degenerate four-wave mixing (TR-DFWM) investigations on an (Al, Ga)As/GaAs multiple quantum well Bragg structure reveal a time-dependent radiation pattern of the nonlinear optical response from the super-radiant and the subradiant exciton modes. Using a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser and an external pulse shaper, 700-fs pulses were generated. For the time-resolution, a strong beam of 100-Fs pulses was used for upconversion of the DWFM signal in an LiIO3 crystal. In addition, rotation of the sample with respect to the direction of the exciting laser beams results in a remarkable change in radiation pattern, indicating the radiation pattern properties to be dominated by radiative coupling.
