Abstract

Wavelength selectable semiconductor lasers were studied as tunable light sources in wavelength multiplexed telecommunication systems. The laser was found to transmit 2.5Gb/s over 681 km under closed loop wavelength, power and mode control. Other features of the laser include tunability, high coupled output power, power monitoring, spectral stability, and high speed modulation.
