Turbo product coded modulation and error flare control for optical fiber transmission systems

Abstract

We propose a turbo-product-coded modulation scheme with performance exceeding the claimed theoretical limit on state-of-the-art SPC-LDPC scheme. We experimentally demonstrate 2460km 4.8bits/s/Hz transmission of a turbo-product-coded 40Gbaud 16-QAM modulation. We investigate error flare control with union-bound evaluation.
