Ultrashort magnetic pulses from laser-solid interaction

Abstract

We demonstrate ultrashort (6 ps), multi-Megagauss (27 MG) magnetic pulses generated in intense laser-solid interaction. The temporal evolution of these magnetic fields is obtained near the high-density critical layer and possible applications are pointed out.
