Uncertainty in the seismic response analysis

Abstract

A reliability study was conducted to estimate uncertainty in seismic response analysis. The study deals with evaluation of structures subjected to short-duration dynamic and seismic loading. A finite element method (FEM)-based formulation was used in the study to model complex mechanical behaviours. A nonlinear FEM-based algorithm incorporating uncertainties in the random variables, including seismic loading, is proposed in the study to estimate the reliability of realistic structural systems. The nonlinear finite element-based hybrid method, proposed in the model will help to track the propagation of uncertainties in the seismic response analysis.
