Abstract

This review, the first in the new Updates series, examines the latest research in cardiology. Much of this research has focused on the pathophysiology of coronary artery disease and its clinical implications. Recent studies have also shown the effectiveness of afterload reduction in patients with asymptomatic aortic regurgitation and of carefully monitored anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation. Immunosuppressive therapy has been shown to have no effect on outcome in patients with myocarditis.
