Vibration mitigation in composite plates using an electromagnetic field

Abstract

In this work, a partial differential equation (PDE)-constrained optimization problem for vibration mitigation in an electrically conductive composite plate using an electromagnetic field is considered. The underlying physical phenomenon of the problem of vibration mitigation is based on the electro-magneto-mechanical coupling in the electrically conductive solids through the Lorentz ponderomotive force. The optimization aspect of the problem is motivated by the desire to find optimal characteristics of the electromagnetic field (consisting of an AC current and in-plane magnetic field) that will lead to the most effective vibration damping in the electrically conductive composite plate subjected to a transverse mechanical load.
